INDUSTRY NEWS: OFTEC Clamps Down on Illegal Logo Use

28th April 2008

The Oil Firing Technical Association - OFTEC - is clamping down on non-registered businesses and technicians that are illegally using the OFTEC logo. The warning comes after a successful prosecution by Powys Trading Standards against David Mees trading as DEE Boiler Services and Oil Boiler Servicing UK.

Mr. Mees was found to be using the OFTEC logo on his website and paperwork, when in fact he was not OFTEC registered.

In court he pleaded guilty to four Trade Description Act offences, and nine Health and Safety Executive Offences. He was ordered to complete 280 hours of community service and costs of £6,750 were awarded.

Chief Executive of OFTEC, Jeremy Hawksley, said 'We must protect the public from the cowboys, and also protect the image of properly trained and OFTEC registered technicians. We work closely with trading standards in these cases to investigate any cases of non-registered firms using the OFTEC logo.'

Anyone aware of any companies falsely claiming to be OFTEC Registered should contact OFTEC in the UK on 0845 65 85 080 or from the Republic of Ireland on 0044 845 65 85 080.
